South of the Border

by: Miguel Reyes

The “South of the Border” section will focus on the Fenner Dunlop Sales efforts in Mexico, Central America, and South America.

News  from the Chilean  Market

After spending five years with Scandura and five years now with Fenner Dunlop, I am happy to say that we now have the capability to service the Chilean Market. Chile has thirteen political and geographic regions (one region in northern Chile and twelve in southern Chile).

Fenner Dunlop now has two distributors:

Breinbauer Sur, a small Chilean company covering Regions 4 & 12, are servicing the Lightweight market and distributing low tension Industrial products. They started with Fenner Dunlop three years ago, buying a small amount of our products per year. They are now preparing a budget to buy almost triple the previous amount of belting for the year 2007. With Breinbauer we cover: Aggregates, Cement Plants, Cellulose Plants, and Wood Plants to name a few.

Breinbauer Co. started with a small office in the South of Chile with five people and have now expanded to a new larger office based in Concepción and a branch in Santiago, with almost forty-five employees. They sell our Lightweight products and provide service on-site.

On the Heavy-weight side of the business, Fenner Dunlop has joined forces with a major distributor in Chile, Conveyor Services Chile S.A, ( CSC ). We have seen tremendous growth and improvement in the business everyday under the management of Andrew Hustrulid.

Conveyor Services Corporation, headquartered in Blairsville, PA, has established a service operation in Antofagasta, Chile. This facility is being setup by Andrew Hustrulid with support from Miguel Reyes to support and establish new belting sales in the region for Fenner Dunlop.

CSC is selling Fenner Dunlop Heavyweight products, such as Dynaflight®, UsFlex®, and other tension fabric belts. They also provide integral on-site services and products including splicing, rubber lagging, application engineering, scrapers and other conveyor accessories. They have already done splice work and system changes for big overlands and feeders at Minera Quebrada Blanca, Minera Escondida, Lomas Bayas ( Falconbridge Co. ) and El Abra ( Codelco Divition ).

On July 24th, 2006 Conveyor Services S.A. was awarded 100% of a renewable yearly service contract for the crushing and conveying division of the Escondida Copper Mine in Northern Chile. The Escondida mine is operated by BHP Billiton and is the world’s largest source of copper.

Until the award of this contract to Conveyor Services S.A. all of the service work on conveyor systems was done by Caucho Tecnica, a subsidiary of ContiTech conveyor belting.

David Hurd, Doug Simmons, and Peter Alderson visited the Conveyor Services facilities in early June and participated in our inaugural booth at the ExpoMin Show in Santiago.

This is a great success for Andrew and the CSC team!  New, large business opportunities are coming for Fenner Dunlop and Conveyor Services.

Chile has a promising future in the Conveyor Belting business!
